Solar radiation

The sun produces an enormous volume of energy (66 million W/m2) which is transmitted towards the Earth.

On a clear day, part of this energy will reach the Earth, which is up to is 1000 W/m2.

Types of radiation

To determine which type of solar protection system is the most suitable for installation in a building, the following source of solar radiation must be taken into consideration.

Solar transmission

docril-tipo-radiaccion

Direct radiation

Radiation which has been neither absorbed nor reflected by the Earth’s atmosphere.

Diffuse radiation

Radiation which has been is absorbed by the atmosphere and emitted in all directions.

Refl ected radiation

Radiation which has been is reflected from the ground from direct and diffuse radiation.

docril-transmision-solar

Ts (transmission of solar radiation)

Quantifies the volume of radiation which passes through a fabric. A low percentage indicates a reduction of solar energy by the fabric.

Rs (reflection of solar radiation)

Quantifies the volume of radiation reflected by a fabric. A high percentage indicates a reduction of solar energy by the fabric.

As (absorption of solar radiation)

Quantifies the volume of radiation absorbed by a fabric. A low percentage indicates a reduction of solar energy by the fabric.

Fabric optical and thermal properties

Solar protection is defined as the combination of systems which are used to control the volume of light and energy from the sun in a building.

Controlling solar light and energy benefi ts energy savings in terms of:

Reducing the amount of energy needed for heating or cooling the inside of the building.

Reducing the amount of energy needed for lighting, by optimising natural light Reducing CO2 emissions (and reduces the impact caused by the building’s carbon footprint).

In the same way, this visual and thermal control favours comfort inside the building, providing and boosting the productivity of those inside.

Visual / Optical Comfort

Natural light has a significant and positive infl uence on people’s health. When people are inside a building where there is adaptive control of daylight, their performance is boosted.

Glare control

Which the capacity of the canvas to control the level of lighting to reduce light contrasts.

To determine the visual comfort offered by acrylic canvases, the ratings as defined by the EN14500 standard, and are used with the regard to:

Use of daylight

Which the capacity to reduce the period during which artificial lighting is required and to make optimal use of the available daylight.

People are thermally comfortable when they do not feel hot or cold, that is, when the temperature, humidity and air currents are favourable to the activity being performed.

When these activities are taking place indoors, this comfort comes from the structure of the building and the openings to the outdoors (through windows and glass doors).

It is for this reason that solar protection systems perform efficiently to control environmental temperatures indoors.

To determine the thermal comfort offered by acrylic canvases, the ratings as defined by the EN14500 standard , and are used with the regard to following:

    Solar factor (Gtot)

The relationship between the solar energy which impacts on the outside of a window and the total energy which is transmitted to the inside of a room.

    Quality Docril®

The Docril® fabrics weight 295 gr/m2, which is the perfect balance between the consistency required for the fabric to have “body”, and being light enough to ensure the proper functioning of the awning fi ttings.

The number of threads per m2, longitudinally and transversally, give our Docril® fabrics a very compact structure, unique in the market, which minimises the gaps for sunlight and UV rays to pass through.

    docril_telas_corte

Intrinsic and long lasting colours. Docril® fabrics are manufactured with solution-dyed acrylic fibres. The solution-dyeing process incorporates the pigments into the molecules of the fibre, creating stronger bonds than would be achieved by dyeing the thread or the fabric.

This means that the fabrics have very low vulnerability to the effects of UV rays, and we can guarantee the brightness and colour fastening for many years.

  • As they are in compliance with the fabric section of the very demanding European Standard (EN 13561), the combination of materials which form the awning has obtained the CE mark, meaning that Docril® fabrics and our range of solar protection systems are suitable for outdoor use. The main requirements to obtain this certification are:

    Tensile Strength

The maximum tension that the fabric can support, before it begins to stretch and break at the extremities.

    Tear Strength

The resistance of the fabric to the spreading of a tear from an initial cut.

    Dimensional Stability

Docril® fabrics do not become misshapen due to temperature changes, nor as a result of rolling and unrolling during use.

    Colour Fastness Outdoors

The colours of Docril® fabrics come from solution-dyed fibres, guaranteeing an intrinsic and long lasting colour which, according to current standards, is categorised as a 7-8 on the Blue Scale.

Over recent years, in close collaboration with our suppliers of raw materials, at Citel we have reduced the volume of PFCs (perfl uorocarbons) in our fabrics to negligible amounts.

There is an on-going debate as to whether C6 or C8 Fluorocarbons should be used. When you are purchasing a Citel/Docril® fabric, this debate is irrevelant. Since the beginning of 2012, as our desire to protect the environment, we have reduced the volume of PFOAs (perfl uorooctanoic acids) in our standard fabrics to below 20 ppb, wich is a negligible amount.

Thanks to our commitment to our users and the environment, we are continually researching new products in order to defi nitively eliminate PFOAs from our fabrics.

Protective barrier that repels dirt, easing the cleaning and maintenance of the awning. The liquid stains form droplets that slide easily across the surface, without penetrating the tissue. Consequently, the finishing of the Docril® fabrics are self-cleaning.

Our fabrics are studied and designed to achieve the highest values possible in Spray Tests, which are performed to calculate the resistance of fabrics to surface moisture. These tests score are measured between 0 and 100, and 100 being the result of Docril® fabrics, achieving an excellent water repellent capability.

Docril® fabrics have a resistance to a water column of up to 35cm, which is the volume of accumulated water that the fabric can support vertically before it begins to filter and drip through the fabric.

Docril® fabrics are treated to resist staining from oil-based products, ensuring that splashes, dry stains and spills can be easily cleaned with a dry cloth, and dry stains can be brushed off easily. The offi cial rating for the Oil Test is from a grade 3 to a grade 6, the latter being the highest and which is achieved by our Docril® fabrics.

Provides our Docril® fabrics with self-cleaning properties, facilitating their cleaning and maintenance, thanks to the combination of an Oil Test grade of 6 (meaning that liquid stains form droplets) and a Spray Test score of 100 (water runs easily over the surface of the fabric).

The reduction in the protective effect of the ozone layer means that solar protection is increasingly more important. Indeed, our eyes and skin are very sensitive to the energy-rich radiation in the ultraviolet (UV) wavelength.

Even in cloudy weather, UV protection is essential as, even though the clouds block the sunlight, they block very few UV rays. Our Docril® fabrics are certified with the maximum 80 rating according to the European UV STANDARD 801.

    Quality PVC

Mehler Texnologies is one of the leading companies in the coated fabrics market worldwide. It supplies more than 50 million square meters of technical textiles to companies in the (clothing) manufacturing industry.

The technology used to develop these technical fabrics goes back throughout 60 years of experience in research and production.

Constant research and development lead to further improvements in designing coated technical fabrics, which allows us to create new product uses and markets.

To ensure and improve the high quality of our products, the machinery we use is constantly updated to keep up with cutting-edge technology.

    Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability

The responsible path our company follows in its use of energy resources, sustainable materials that respect the environment, with processes and activities for recycling textiles, are all highlighted by our eco-care label.

Vinyl Plus puts into practice “the voluntary commitment of the PVC industry” made by manufacturers and handlers of products containing PVC. This commitment includes the entire life cycle of PVC and products containing PVC, which makes them more sustainable.

    Participation in External Recycling Systems

Through the EPCoast waste collection system, post-use waste is gathered and collected mechanically. Based on its thermal and physical properties, it is converted into new products.

Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals

The EU’s “REACH – Rregistration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals Regulation” Directive has the goal of improving knowledge about the dangers and risks which may be caused by chemicals.

The companies affected by the REACH Regulation are the producers, importers and users of chemicals.

They are committed to handling the products used in their manufacturing processes with greater responsibility.

Mehler Texnologies sells an end product which is not subject to the REACH Regulation, but it ensures that all of the products with which it works adhere to this EU Directive and that the compounds it uses do not contain any hazardous substances.

Common Behaviors in Acrylic Canvases for Solar Protection

The fabrics were designed aesthetically and technically under strict control to meet our customers’ solar protection needs, increasing privacy and energy savings.

Once the canvas has been made for installation, it may contain certain visual irregularities that cannot be considered flaws in the fabric as a whole. These flaws do not entail any decrease in the intrinsic properties of the canvas in terms of its resistance, water-repellant properties or solar protection.

    The most common effects are:

    Marks visible against backlighting

Because of the canvas’ handling during manufacturing and installation, as well as the folds created during production, such marks can be seen more in lighter colors.

Areas adjacent to threading and/or seams

Certain wrinkles are caused when the thickness of hems exerts additional pressure on the fabric while rolled up, causing a bit of stretching on the canvas in these areas.

    Visible folds

These may occur due to use of the awning itself, because, during the opening and closing process, the fabric may be subject to some movement which makes it easier to see such folds with use. This effect is also known as the “honeycomb” effect. It is very important for the awning to be properly rolled once completely dry, because moisture may increase this visual effect. It will also prevent the growth of odor-causing microorganisms in the awning.

    Formation of micro-pores

In canvases made with a hooded shape, such pores may form because the fold-based structure and its constant closing and opening may end up leading to the formation of micro-pores on the canvas’ specific technical finish.

    Cleaning and maintenance instructions

We recommend cleaning your Docril® fabric with a soft-bristled brush, and rinsing with water. For localised stains, clean with a neutral detergent mixed in lukewarm water (maximum 38 ºC / 100 ºF) and rinse with water.

When used in awnings, it is very important to allow the fabric to dry completely before folding it. Should it be necessary to fold the awning while the fabric is still damp, it can be dried with air (under no circumstances should hot air be used), although the fabric dries out very quickly thanks to its technical characteristics.

Our Docril® fabrics can be dry ironed (below 66 ºC / 150 ºF) using the synthetics setting.

    Do not steam iron.

As it is not possible to explain how to deal with every possible type of stain in this document, please contact us at info@citel.es if you need further instructions or help and we will be more than happy to assist you.

    • Alterations and modifications of the fabric not approved by Loncar S.L.
    • Accidents, fires, inclement weather, negligence, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, air pollution, acts of God, or other conditions and fatalities beyond the reasonable control of Loncar S.L.

Moreover, this warranty does not cover the cost of assembly/dismantling, labor, damages, production or shipping resulting from a defective shipment of fabric. At no time shall Loncar S.L. be responsible for economic losses or lost income due to the sale of fabric to the manufacturer, or for any claim made against the manufacturer by any third parties. Under no circumstances may Loncar S.L.’s liability exceed the value of the goods described in the original invoice to the manufacturer in respect of which the claim is made.

(*) In outdoor projects and installations, the conditions to which the fabric will be exposed are very difficult to state in parameters or to standardize for determining a warranty period, since they may be highly variable, so in such projects the Sunless® and Sunless Glass® warranty will be given for 3 years.
